Ferrero wants Messi at Sampdoria

Even if Lionel Messi may not be considering leaving Barcelona in the nearest future, many clubs still believe that if it were up to chance, they would be willing to break the bank for such an awesome talent.

With the price tag that the Argentine currently carries, few clubs will come to mind when a list of potential employers is been compiled but make no mistakes, some other clubs who do not even have the financial integrity to engage in such venture have also signalled interest and one of them is the Serie A outfit, Sampdoria.

The Italian side are fantasizing that the Argentine could join their ranks some day with the club’s president, Massimo Ferrero stating that he has it in mind to sign the Barcelona superman in the coming years. Since he took charge of the club in June 2014, the 63-year-old has made it his goal to rejuvenate the Stadio Luigi Ferraris side into a European super power.

Sampdoria reached the heights of their power in the late 1980s and early 1990s when they took Italy by storm winning four Coppe Italia and one Serie A title. They were also the 1990 Cup Winners Cup and in fact the 1992 European Cup finalist where they eventually lost to Barcelona.

Ferrero believes that he can bring back those good days to the club and will try to bring a player of Messi’s stature to further his cause. Speaking to Sky Sport 24, Ferrero stated that he would like to be at the centre of a great Sampdoria once again.

He wants to relieve the accomplishments of the great Paolo Mantovani at the club and also added that the wants to win laurels at the club and not to count ants. With Sampdoria currently joint sixth on the Serie A log, it remains to be seen if they can garner the 250 million euros required to trigger Messi’s buyout clause.
